A suitable HP system is an important component of any paintball setup. Modern paintball markers typically use compressed air or HPA (High Pressure Air) as their propellant. The compressed air is stored in a cylinder and reduced to the outlet pressure specified for the marker via an HP regulator. Only this regulated compressed air enters the marker, where it is used for the firing cycle.

200-bar or 300-bar HP system?

One of the most important decisions when purchasing a paintball HP system is the operating pressure of the cylinder. In paintball, 200 bar and 300 bar are particularly common.

A 200-bar system operates at a lower tank pressure and is a straightforward solution for many classic paintball setups. Our product range includes, for example, 200-bar aluminum tanks as well as complete HPA systems such as the PowAir Basic Series 0.8 l / 48 ci with 200 bar.

In contrast, a 300-bar HPA system stores significantly more compressed air in the cylinder. This allows a larger volume of air to be carried for a comparable cylinder volume. This can be particularly relevant for longer game days, MagFed setups, or players with higher air consumption.

One example is the PowAir Carbon Series 0.8 l / 48 ci HPA system with 300 bar. For larger setups, 1.1-liter, 1.5-liter, or 1.7-liter composite systems are available, among others.

However, you shouldn’t just consider the maximum number of shots. The tank weight, design, regulator, marker, and your planned playing style must all work together.

Composite or Aluminum?

HP tanks come in different designs. Aluminum tanks have a comparatively simple construction and are often attractively priced. Composite tanks, on the other hand, feature a composite construction and, depending on the model, can offer a more favorable ratio between weight and stored air volume.

For a lightweight tournament setup, for example, a compact composite tank might be a good choice. With a Woodland or MagFed marker, however, other factors such as tank length, diameter, and position on the body may be more important.

The HP regulator is crucial

The cylinder itself does not provide a working pressure suitable for the marker. That’s where the HP regulator comes in. It reduces the high cylinder pressure to a defined output pressure and supplies this to the marker.

Depending on the regulator, factors such as input pressure, output pressure, design, threading, and connection configuration vary. Therefore, a regulator should not be selected based solely on the specification “300 bar.”

The product line includes, for example, the Ninja PRO V3 Stainless Steel HP Regulator with 300 bar / 4,500 psi, the PowAir MICROMAX 2.0, and the PowAir SUPERMAX Titan Pro. Regulators with different output pressure configurations are also available.

For special applications, regulators with higher output pressures are also available. However, this is not an area where the rule “more pressure = better” applies across the board. The output pressure must be compatible with the respective marker platform and its air system.

HP Systems for MagFed and Scenario

In MagFed paintball, the size of the air system often plays a different role than with a classic tournament marker. Compact cylinders can be mounted directly on the marker or used in a suitable setup.

For this application, we carry, among other things, small 300-bar systems from the PowAir Tactical Line. These include, for example, 0.23-liter and 0.25-liter systems that are specifically designed for compact MagFed configurations.

On the other hand, players using a larger Woodland marker for several hours may benefit from a larger tank or a remote system. In this setup, the HPA tank is not mounted directly on the marker but is carried, for example, on a battlepack or a vest.

HPA Remote Systems and Mamba Hoses

An HPA remote system primarily changes the weight distribution of the setup. The tank is not located directly on the marker but is connected to it via a high-pressure hose.

The product line includes various PowAir remote systems, including Straight, Shutter, Comfort, and Double-Hose models.

For customization and maintenance of such systems, bleeders, fill adapters, on/off valves, angle connectors, and other 1/8“ components are also available. One example is a bleeder for Mamba remote systems with a 1/8” connection.

When selecting components, pay close attention to the specific connections and threads. A 1/8" component is not automatically compatible with just any high-pressure air (HPA) component simply because the thread size matches.

Protecting and Properly Handling HP Cylinders

A compressed air cylinder is under high pressure and should be handled with appropriate care. Damage to the cylinder body, valve, or regulator should not be ignored.

For mechanical protection, we offer various bottle covers and tank covers. These protect the cylinder from scratches and contact with other pieces of equipment, among other things. Our product range includes, for example, bottle covers from DYE, IDP, and Bunker King for various cylinder sizes.

 

The regulator can also be equipped with suitable protective components. However, it is crucial to remember that a cover is no substitute for inspecting the cylinder and the regulator.

Filling Stations and HP Accessories

In addition to complete HPA systems, our compressed air product line also includes the appropriate accessories. For stationary applications, for example, HP/HPA filling stations for 200 and 300 bar are available.

For installing or repairing air lines, we carry, among other items, Macroline sets, 1/8" adapters, elbow connectors, and mini on/off valves.
